SHIPPING FORMS
All international shipments require a Shippers Letter of Instruction (SLI), a Commercial Invoice, and may require a Shippers Export Declaration (SED). A shipment may also require a Certificate of Origin or other documentation based on the value, commodity and destination country regulations.

SDS’s Export Department can prepare most documentation on your behalf if issued a power of attorney.

SLI & SED
The Shipper's Letter of Instruction (SLI) is a document that conveys all the pertinent information in regard to the shipment and provides the necessary information to prepare the export documentation. Also, the SLI is the basis for the destination shipment manifest.

The SDS SLI has a SED attached to it. An SED is required by the U.S. Government.

An SED is needed for goods exported from the U.S. when the value of any commodity in a shipment is equal to or greater than $2,500 U.S. dollars.

An SED is required when the shipment requires a validated export license or license exemption.

COMMERCIAL INVOICE
The Commercial Invoice is the primary shipping document used by Customs, worldwide, for commodity control and valuation.

The Commercial Invoice needs to conform to regulations of both the exporting and importing countries, however there are generally no specific government format requirements.

The Commercial Invoice is basically a bill for the goods from buyer to seller. The buyer needs the invoice to prove ownership and arrange payment.

Signed Original + 2 Copies Required

CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN
The Certificate of Origin is needed to determine the origin of imported goods when determining what duty will be assessed.

With the exception of country-specific certificates of origin, most countries will accept a general purpose form.

The Certificate of Origin may be filled out by the exporter or SDS, notarized and attested by a local Chamber of Commerce.
